Slice of my Life

I've been doing quite a bit of walking lately: to the subway, to work, to restaurants, to galleries. I'm constantly inspired by all the new things surrounding me. This is especially true about the area I live in. I threw together a few visual "slices" for my friends and family back home who are wondering what my neighborhood looks like. I live right around the corner from the Lincoln Center Opera House on the Upper West Side. On various days, depending on the time and the street corner, I'm surrounded by Opera-goers, Julliard and Fordham Students, Columbus Circle shoppers, and streams of professionals off to the subways. I can't wait until it gets warmer, because I'm a few blocks from Central Park! I feel lucky to have ended up in this area, because it's so beautiful, safe, and affluent. It's been great!

The images above, show the area around the Columbus Circle intersection (on the Southwest corner of Central Park, just a few blocks from my apartment).

Yeah, you are so lucky... Do you go shopping at the whole foods? Down your end of the park, there's a hot dog vendor who also sells kebabs-- which means he can (and will) GRILL your dog! There used to be a little old French lady in a kiosk, who was a million years old,and she made crepes. One day a dater took me there the morning after making luve and I got a delicious apple crepe... The first time the French lady made my crepe, she stopped in the middle and said, "Non!Eet ees not right!" And I was like, no, it's fine! And she was like,"NON!"and she threw it away and started over... She's not there anymore.

WOW. I look up to you, making your way in the big apple. It looks so diverse and busy.

Seeing photos of Columbus Circle is just what I needed today. As for restaurant recommendations in the area, avoid the Mexican place just north of Lincoln Center -- mediocre burritos, even worse chips, and you'll likely be seated uncomfortably close to a miserable couple who are on their first and obviously disappointing match.com date. Of course, all of this is tolerable (even enjoyable) if you drink enough margaritas. I'm glad you're loving your new city...you seem to have found your Final Destination (I smell another sequel).

Hey...

hey young world - Loving the Whole Foods nearby, but I want to meet the vendor and kiosk madam you're talking about! ...too bad she's no longer there. Thanks for sharing this moment. I think it's these little moments that make this city so interesting.

knick knack - Patrick? Is that you? If so, I MISS YOU, buddy. If this isn't Patrick, well then, thank you very much. I'd love to tell you about this crazy city sometime.

write on dude - HEY!!! I know WHO THIS IS!!! Thank you for writing! I've thought about you often, and I'm sorry I am inept at reaching out. I admire your work, and what you're trying to do. I hope your NY chapter has a happy ending with you living here soon...you mentioned coming back...I WILL AVOID that burrito place in the future, even though the good memories could draw me back. I already CAN'T WAIT for FD4, you'll see it with me, right? I'll go do a play in return...take care, man...
